About the Shanghai 21st Contemporary Art Fair
The Shanghai 21st Contemporary Art Fair (ART021 SHANGHAI), launched in 2013 as part of the Shanghai International Arts Festival, is a premier platform connecting artists, collectors, patrons, and museum directors. The fair brings together top global galleries to share contemporary art trends and ideas, guided by principles of quality selection, professional standards, local engagement, and international perspective.
Committed to the philosophy of "local roots, global vision," ART021 has become a key indicator of China's contemporary art market. As a core component of the Shanghai International Art Trading Month, the fair supports contemporary Chinese art and nurtures local collectors. Its goal is to establish a professional art trading platform that promotes the Chinese art industry's growth and creates significant economic opportunities for Shanghai.
In 2020, despite challenges, the fair achieved record-breaking on-site transaction amounts. It featured 114 top galleries from 43 cities across 18 countries and introduced an innovative online PLATFORM. Prestigious galleries like GALLERIA CONTINUA, GAGOSIAN, and PERROTIN participated, alongside emerging galleries such as 3125C GALLERIA, bringing fresh energy to the event.
The fair's design and jewelry section showcased world-class galleries and brands like CINDY CHAO and FRIEDMAN BENDA, highlighting contemporary design and art. This approach enhanced the fair's cultural diversity and global perspective, demonstrating that art transcends boundaries.
